A Life-course Perspective on the "Gateway Hypothesis".
Drawing on stress and life-course perspectives and using panel data from 1,286 south Florida young adults, we assess three critical questions regarding the role of marijuana in the "gateway hypothesis." متن کاملProcedures as a Gateway to Spacecraft Autonomy
This paper examines the role of procedures in operating crewed spacecraft and how procedures can serve as an entry point for spacecraft autonomy. Procedures represent the knowledge necessary to operate a system and are a critical component of crewed spaceflight. Historically, procedures have been executed by humans reading from a piece of paper or a static display. In this paper we describe a n...
متن کاملMemory instability as a gateway to generalization.
Our present frequently resembles our past. Patterns of actions and events repeat throughout our lives like a motif. Identifying and exploiting these patterns are fundamental to many behaviours, from creating grammar to the application of skill across diverse situations. Such generalization may be dependent upon memory instability. Following their formation, memories are unstable and able to int...
متن کاملThe LIFE child study: a life course approach to disease and health
BACKGROUND Profound knowledge about child growth, development, health, and disease in contemporary children and adolescents is still rare. Epidemiological studies together with new powerful research technologies present exciting opportunities to the elucidation of risk factor-outcome associations with potentially major consequences for prevention, diagnosis and treatment. AIM To conduct a uni...
متن کاملAccurately Measuring Health over the Life Course
This paper develops a new method of estimating rich, dynamic models of health based on multiple health measures available in the HRS. We apply these methods to investigate what generates the large socioeconomic gradient in health. Preliminary results suggest a large role for initial differences in health at age 50 that persist into old age.
